A move back home to Maine in 2014 brought us Downeast on Cobscook Bay where we overlook the water. In the evening after my engineering day job there is nothing more relaxing then settling into my sewing room with a podcast in my ear, my dog at my feet and a gorgeous sunset to watch. It is my hope that the peace and love I pour into the pieces I make is felt by their ultimate owner.
The craft of sewing is one that has been handed down over generations in my family and one that was shown to me in turn by my Mom. It has always been a creative outlet and source of relaxation for me. As my daughter grew and I had more free time to myself, I created several handsewn gifts for family and friends. Hours spent choosing fabric, leather, and hardware combinations is a soothing change from my daytime duties as an engineer. Others became interested in my work, a friend encouraged me to make some items to sell at a fair and Cobscook Stitches was born. The business has garnered more interest than I thought it would yet all items remain handmade by one maker. They are created in small batches and are often one of a kind in their combination of fabrics and finishing hardware.
Yes, you can have items that are both elegant and functional!
Cobscook Stitches pieces include several hallmark finishing details.
Leather Trimmings: Zipper pulls, handles, and branding
tags that are both functional yet create a polished finish.
Metal Hardware: Metal tooth zippers with donut pulls, rivets,
slides, clasps and buckles give the products the strength for
everyday use yet also create an elegant look.
Fabric: Heavy weight home decor and canvas fabrics
create products that can withstand the rigor of every day use while retaining their shape and style. The genuine cork fabric used in several designs has become a hallmark for the brand.
